Saturday night's Penguins-Maple Leafs game in Toronto got off to a pretty horrifying start when Pens goalie Marc-Andre Fleury took a skate to the neck just a few minutes into the game.

Luckily, James van Riemsdyk's skate only seemed to slightly catch Fleury's neck and merely opened up a small cut. That's about the best case scenario in this kind of situation, with the worst case being what we saw happen to Clint Malarchuk back in 1989 when the Buffalo Sabres goalie nearly died after having his carotid artery and jugular vein sliced by an opponent's skate.

Fleury briefly left the game to receive repairs but returned and made 41 saves in Pittsburgh's 2-1 OT loss.
