Man City manager Pellegrini given extra year to 2017

MANCHESTER, England (AP) Manchester City says it has extended the contract of manager Manuel Pellegrini to 2017.

Pellegrini's last deal was to expire in 2016.

City says on Friday that similar extensions have been given to his coaching staff.

The 61-year-old Pellegrini, who won the English Premier League in his first season with City in 2014, came under pressure last season when they finished runner-up to Chelsea, and Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola was repeatedly linked to his job.

City chief executive Fernando Soriano says Pellegrini ''has already contributed so much ... in his first two years.''
