Long scores 27 points, Louisiana-Lafayette slips past North Texas 80-76

Shawn Long scored 27 points and Bryant Mbamalu added 19 on Saturday night and Louisiana Lafayette defeated North Texas 80-76.

Elfrid Payton scored 14 points to go with nine assists and three steals for Louisiana-Lafayette (3-5, 1-1 Sun Belt).

North Texas (3-5, 0-1) got 23 points from Chris Jones and 11 points from Jordan Williams.

Mbamalu connected on five 3-point shots, including one that gave Louisiana-Lafayette a 59-57 lead with 9:26 left in the game.

North Texas and Louisiana-Lafayette went back and forth down the stretch. Steven Wronkoski hit a 3-pointer with 1:16 left to give Louisiana-Lafayette a 73-71 lead.
