Lodwick chosen to carry U.S. flag

Sochi, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) - Nordic combined athlete Todd Lodwick has been selected to carry the flag for the United States at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Olympics.

Lodwick, chosen in a vote among Team USA members, is set to compete in his sixth Olympics, making him the first U.S. athlete to participate in six Winter Games.

"Being nominated to carry the flag at the opening ceremony is one of the greatest honors that has ever been bestowed upon me," said Lodwick on Wednesday. "I couldn't be more humbled and excited to be selected among all of the great athletes who were vying for this representation. Going into my sixth Olympic Games, it feels like I have already won a medal, and to cap off my career by representing the United States of America and Team USA is truly a privilege."

The 36-year-old Colorado native won a silver medal at the 2010 Games as part of the team event.

Lodwick is the second nordic combined skier to serve as flag bearer for Team USA. Rolf Monsen also carried the flag in 1936.
