Liberty Bowl announces deal to match Big 12 school against SEC representative starting in 2014

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

The Liberty Bowl has reached a six-year deal with the Big 12 that will take effect in the 2014 season.

Under the agreement announced Friday, the Liberty Bowl will match a Big 12 team against a representative from the Southeastern Conference. In a release announcing the deal, Liberty Bowl officials say they will have the fourth selection of Big 12 teams after that league's college football playoff representatives have been chosen.

The Liberty Bowl currently matches the Conference USA champion against an SEC representative, assuming the SEC has enough bowl-eligible teams to fill its Liberty partnership. The bowl's contract with Conference USA expires after this season.
