NEW YORK (Reuters) - The New York Knicks have been fined $200,000 and one of their scouts was handed a $20,000 fine for violating NBA rules restricting contact between teams and prospective draft choices, the league announced Thursday.

Scout Rodney Heard broke the rules once in May 2007 and again in May 2010, the NBA said in a statement.

Heard held workouts with draft-eligible players prior to the league's annual camp before the NBA Draft, the New York Times reported.
