KC's Butler wins AL Player of the Week

Kansas City Royals designated hitter Billy Butler was named the American League Player of the Week for the period ending July 29.

Butler hit .458 with three doubles, one home run and six RBI in a seven-game road trip.

For the week, Butler led the AL in on-base percentage (.552), tied for first in hits (11), was second in batting average and doubles (three) and was fourth in slugging percentage (.708).

The 26-year-old won his fourth weekly award and first since August 1, 2011.

Butler became the eighth Royal to pick up 200 doubles on Thursday and crushed his 20th home run of the season on Wednesday, and now stands one shy of his career high.

White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko, Orioles infielder Omar Quintanilla, Twins center fielder Denard Span and pitcher Scott Diamond, Rangers pitcher Scott Feldman and Mariners pitcher Tom Wilhelmsen were also considered for the honor.
