Jois, Chiverton score 19 points each; Eastern Washington holds off SC Upstate for 75-70 win

Venky Jois and Collin Chiverton scored 19 points each to lead Eastern Washington to a 75-70 victory against South Carolina Upstate in a CBE Hall of Fame Classic game on Wednesday night.

Jois had 11 rebounds and Justin Crosgile 10 assists for the Eagles (1-4).

Adrian Rodgers scored 17 points and Torrey Craig 14 for the Spartans (1-4). Mario Blessing and Jodd Maxey had 10 points each.

South Carolina Upstate overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to force a 67-all tie with 2:38 remaining. But the Spartans missed their next six shots.

Martin Seiferth dunked for Eastern Washington, Jeffery Forbes' 3-pointer with 18 seconds remaining increased the lead to 72-67, and the Eagles protected their margin at the free-throw line.

Eastern Washington shot a season-high 48 percent (24 of 50) from the floor, including 12 of 24 from 3-point range.
