John Dickson scored a career-high 29 points on 10-of-15 shooting, helping Sacramento State match the best six-game start in school history by beating Dominican 77-68 on Tuesday night.
Dickson, a senior, hit two 3-pointers and made all seven of his free throws. Dylan Garrity added 16 points for the Hornets (5-1), who found themselves tied with the Division II Penguins (2-3) after a Matt Hayes layup with 4:42 to play. But a 10-0 Sacramento State run, capped by Konner Veteto's three-point play with a minute left, put the game away.
Devin Golston and Jacob Noisat led Dominican with 12 points apiece. Myles Carrillo had 11, including three 3-pointers.
The Hornets improved to 5-0 all-time against the Penguins; the last meeting between the schools came in 2003. Sacramento State will try for the first 6-1 start in school history when it visits Arizona State on Saturday.
