Jets acquire Eric Fehr from Capitals

Eric Fehr, who scored 43 goals over the past three seasons for the Washington Capitals despite playing mostly on the third and fourth lines, was traded to the Winnipeg Jets on Friday for minor-league forward Danick Paquette and a fourth-round pick in the 2012 Entry Draft.

The trade is conditional on Fehr -- who was born in Manitoba and continues to make a home there during the offseason -- passing a physical with Winnipeg by 5 p.m. ET on Monday.

Fehr had 10 goals and 20 points in 52 games for the Capitals this past season, adding 1 goal in five playoff games. He scored a career-high 21 goals the previous season and 12 the season prior to that, even though he rarely saw big minutes on a team with a wealth of talented forwards like Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Alexander Semin and Brooks Laich.

Fehr is a former first-round pick of the Capitals, taken with the 18th pick in the 2003 Entry Draft. He has compiled 46 goals, 93 points and a plus-33 rating in 230 regular-season games, plus 5 goals and 6 points in 26 playoff contests.

Paquette is a third-round pick by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2008 Entry Draft who played this past season for the Gwinnett Gladiators of the East Coast Hockey League, finishing with 13 goals and 20 points in 59 games. He scored 36 goals during the 2009-10 season while playing for the Quebec Remparts in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
