New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter had surgery Saturday to repair a broken left ankle.

The procedure was performed in Charlotte, N.C. by Dr. Robert Anderson. Recovery is expected to take approximately 4-to-5 months.

Jeter fractured his left ankle in the 12th inning of last Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series.

In six postseason games, Jeter hit .333 with two runs batted in. He batted .316 with 15 home runs and 58 RBI in the regular season.
