Jaguars rookie Corey Grant shows off speed in bid for roster spot

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie running back Corey Grant used Thursday night's final preseason game to demonstrate why he deserves a spot on the team's 53-man roster.

Grant had five carries for 74 yards and touchdown against the Washington Redskins, including a 40-yard run for a score.

"I think his speed really showed up," Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said, per ESPN. "It's something that we saw on his case and then for him to really showcase it in a game like this with his long legs is really good. He's really grown. We've seen those flashes of speed in practice but to get the opportunity in a game is great for him."

An undrafted free agent from Auburn, Grant is vying with former seventh-round pick Storm Johnson in the event the team elects to keep fifth running back on the roster behind T.J. Yeldon, Denard Robinson, Toby Gerhart and Bernard Pierce.

"It was a great feeling," Grant said. "You know, coming to the game, I think I had something to prove and it worked out."

In all, Grant had 10 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown in the preseason. He also averaged 28.8 yards per attempt as a kick returner.
