Ivy League snubs postseason tournament format

The Ivy League announced on Thursday that its directors of athletics have decided not to continue to pursue proposals for postseason tournaments in men's and women's basketball.

"After careful consideration of these proposals, the athletic directors decided that our current method of determining the Ivy League champion and our automatic bid to the NCAA Championship is the best model moving forward," remarked Robin Harris, Ivy League executive director.

Instead of using a postseason tournament, the Ivy League relies on conference record to determine a champion. Ivy League institutions in men's and women's basketball play a 14-game, double round-robin schedule in which each team plays each other home and away. The team with the best conference record is then awarded the league title and an automatic NCAA Tournament bid.
