Injured LB Mauti preps proud, persevering Penn State team for its emotional finale

Published November 20, 2014

A left knee injury might keep Penn State's Michael Mauti off the field, but the star linebacker is still playing an important role this week with the team getting ready for the season finale against Wisconsin.

It's not surprising for a guy who coach Bill O'Brien said "lives and breathes" football.

Mauti reinjured the surgically repaired knee last week against Indiana. O'Brien said Tuesday Mauti can help his replacement, Mike Hull, get ready for the Badgers' running game and star tailback Montee Ball.

Mauti was instrumental in keeping most of the team together in the offseason following NCAA sanctions for the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal.

Defensive tackle Jordan Hill said Mauti told the team to not worry about him and to focus on beating Wisconsin.
