Indians' Bourn headed to DL

Goodyear, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Cleveland Indians center fielder Michael Bourn will begin the upcoming season on the disabled list with an injured left hamstring, the team announced Monday.

Bourn has not played in a spring training game since Mar. 16 due to soreness in his hamstring. The two-time Gold Glove winner had surgery performed on his left leg shortly after the Indians' loss to Tampa Bay in last October's AL Wild Card Game.

Signed to a four-year, $48 million contract by the Indians in February of 2013, Bourn hit .263 with six home runs, 50 RBI and 23 stolen bases over 130 games in his first season in Cleveland.

Bourn's injury opens up a spot on the Opening Day roster for Nyjer Morgan, whom the Indians informed Monday had made the team. The veteran outfielder, who spent the 2013 season with the Yokohama Bay Stars in Japan, signed a minor league deal with the Indians in January.

Morgan, a .280 career hitter over six major league seasons with Pittsburgh, Washington and Milwaukee, is batting .219 with a .359 on-base percentage and six RBI this spring.
