Indians beat Royals 19-1, pitcher sets team mark

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Reuters) - The Cleveland Indians crushed Kansas City 19-1 on Monday and battered Vin Mazzaro into the record books for pitching the worst ever game for the Royals.

The Indians exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning against Mazzaro, who was replaced in the fifth inning and charged with 14 runs in 2-1/3 innings.

The Royals' previous record for runs allowed by a pitcher was 11, reached on three occasions.

Mazzaro had entered in the third inning as Kansas City's third pitcher of the game, and he left in the fifth as just the third pitcher since 1947 to allow 14 runs in a Major League game.

Cleveland (25-13) added four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to enjoy their highest scoring game since recording 22 runs in 2009.

Matt LaPorta went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, Michael Brantley added four RBIs while Travis Hafner and Orlando Cabrera drove in three runs each for the Indians.
