Hurricanes trade veteran defenseman Wallin to Sharks

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Reuters) - The Carolina Hurricanes traded defenseman Niclas Wallin to the San Jose Sharks Sunday, team president and general manager Jim Rutherford said in a statement.

The Hurricanes also gave their fifth-round pick in the 2010 NHL entry draft to San Jose in exchange for Buffalo's second-round pick in the 2010 draft.

Wallin had spent his entire career with Carolina and was third among defensemen in franchise history for regular season games played.
