Hoosiers name former Wake Forest assistant Brian Knorr as defensive coordinator

Published January 08, 2015

Associated Press

Indiana has hired Brian Knorr as its new defensive coordinator.

He replaces the recently fired Doug Mallory. Indiana set a Big Ten record in 2013 for yards allowed in league games and a school record for points allowed per game.

Knorr spent the past six seasons on Wake Forest's coaching staff, the last three as defensive coordinator. In 2011, he switched to a 3-4 defensive front and the Demon Deacons improved in every defensive category.

Before joining Wake Forest, he was at Air Force for the second of his three-year stints at his alma mater. Knorr graduated from the military academy in 1986.

The former college quarterback has coached offense, defense and special teams in his 23-year coaching career. He also was Ohio University's head coach from 2001-04.
