Hamburg, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Hamburg was dealt a blow on Friday as the club announced that midfielder Lewis Holtby will be spending the next 10 weeks on the sidelines with a broken collarbone.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury in a friendly with Eintracht after entering the match as a second-half substitute, and he will have to undergo surgery to repair the problem.
Holtby has started 13 of Hamburg's 17 games in the Bundesliga this season, assisting on one goal, and his absence comes at a bad time for the club, which sits above the relegation places on goal difference.
Hamburg will begin the second half of its season on Jan. 31 at home against Cologne.
