Heat officially add McRoberts

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Heat finalized their agreement with free agent forward Josh McRoberts Monday as the defending Eastern Conference champions attempt to re-tool their roster in the wake of LeBron James' departure.

Multiple media outlets reported last week that McRoberts and the Heat came to terms on a four-year contract worth approximately $23 million.

McRoberts averaged career bests of 8.5 points and 4.3 assists while starting 78 games for Charlotte last season, helping the then-Bobcats to their first playoff appearance since the 2009-10 campaign. The energetic veteran also finished second among Charlotte players with 105 made 3-pointers in 291 attempts.

"We felt from day one that he was one of our main targets," said Heat president Pat Riley. "We are delighted that this multi-faceted player will help us immensely in being the kind of team that Coach Spoelstra wants with his versatility."

Over seven NBA seasons with five different teams (Portland, Indiana, Los Angeles Lakers, Orlando, Charlotte), McRoberts has averaged 5.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 34.2 percent from beyond the arc.

McRoberts' addition is part of what has been a very busy offseason for Miami, which saw four-time league MVP James bolt the franchise to return to his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Heat reportedly reached a deal with two-time All-Star Luol Deng on Sunday to serve as James' replacement, while retaining standout center Chris Bosh as well as point guard Mario Chalmers and key reserve forward Chris Andersen. Forward Danny Granger is also expected to join Miami on a two-year contract.
