Asamoah Gyan secured a permanent move away from Sunderland on Friday, signing a contract with United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain.

Gyan spent the majority of last season on loan at Al-Ain, and he returns to the club on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee.

A Sunderland statement read: "Sunderland can confirm that Ghana international Asamoah Gyan has joined United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain on a permanent deal.

"The striker initially joined the recently-crowned Etisalat Pro-League champions on loan in September 2011 but will now remain in the Gulf state after the clubs agreed undisclosed terms."

Gyan started only three league matches for the Black Cats last season before his loan move, but he led Sunderland with 10 goals in 31 games the previous campaign.
