Grounds crew paints lines, gets field ready for Saturday's England-Italy match at World Cup

The grounds crew at the Arena da Amazonia is working hard trying to get the playing surface ready for Saturday's World Cup match between England and Italy.

Workers were painting the lines along the area surrounding one of the goals and using a cutout of a circle to paint the penalty spot on Friday afternoon, the day before the Amazonian city hosts its first World Cup match.

The groundsman in charge of the turf acknowledged this week that the field was in "bad shape" ahead of the game.

With Uruguay and Costa Rica also in Group D, both England and Italy head into the match knowing that a loss will be a huge hit to their hopes of advancing.

The stadium was supposed to have been finished a year ago, but crews were scrambling to finish work on the venue only last month.
