Grizzlies resume trek against Blazers

Memphis will resume a four-game road trip in Rip City on Thursday hoping to improve its playoff seeding against the struggling Portland Trail Blazers.

The Grizzlies dropped the opener of their trek in Sacramento on Tuesday, 119-110.

Rudy Gay paced the visitors with 23 points and all five starters scored in double figures, but it was not enough for the Grizzlies, who have lost three of four and are fourth in the Western Conference. Marc Gasol scored 15 points and pulled down 10 boards in the loss.

"They did whatever they wanted to," said Gasol. "When they wanted to shoot from the outside they had every shot they wanted. When they wanted to run, they ran. When they wanted to go inside, they went inside."

Memphis, which is 9-12 as the visitor on the year, will finish its trek with games against the Clippers and Lakers in LA.

The Blazers, meanwhile, dropped interim head coach Kaleb Canales' home debut by falling 116-87 to Milwaukee.

LaMarcus Aldridge and Wesley Matthews scored 21 points apiece and pulled down 12 and nine rebounds, respectively, in the setback. Raymond Felton finished with 18 points to go with nine assists for Portland, which has now dropped four of its last five.

"Too many crooked numbers up here on the stat sheet," remarked Canales. "We didn't do a good job defensively tonight. You have to give them credit. They are a hot team and they played like they've been playing and we didn't take them out of their game."

Portland has won four of five and 12 of the last 15 games against Memphis.

These two teams have split the last 14 matchups at the Rose Garden.
