Grand Prix of Indianapolis begins with wreck after Saavedra stalls on start

The inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis got off to auspicious start when pole-sitter Sebastian Saavedra stalled, triggering a violent wreck.

IndyCar used a standing start for the series' first race on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. But Saavedra's car simply didn't go when the lights went out. Ryan Hunter-Reay had to frantically dart around him to avoid hitting the Colombian, as did several other drivers.

But Carlos Munoz clipped Saavedra's stopped car, and then Mikhail Aleshin seemed to drive directly into the back of him, sending debris flying all over the track. Spectators and track workers standing along the wall had to duck to avoid the debris.
