The San Francisco Giants placed closer day disabled list Sunday with right elbow inflammation.
The move is retroactive to August 16, a day after he allowed three runs and blew the save in a 5-4 loss to Atlanta.
Wilson has recorded 35 saves for the defending World Series champions, and has a 6-4 record with a 3.19 ERA in 55 appearances. He has struck out 52 batters in 53 2/3 innings.
To fill the roster spot, the Giants recalled pitcher Steve Edlefsen from Triple-A Fresno.
Edlefsen has yet to make his major league debut. He carries a 2-4 record with a 5.66 ERA in 32 relief appearances for the minor league club.
