Giants DL Jason Pierre-Paul hurts neck early in opener against Lions

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul was taken in for X-rays on his neck after hurting himself early in the first quarter Monday night against the Detroit Lions.

Pierre-Paul stayed down for a while as team personnel attended to him. He was able to walk off the field, but he then was taken toward the locker room.

Pierre-Paul had 16 1/2 sacks in 2011, but he had back surgery before last season and didn't seem to be 100 percent. He ended up with only two sacks in 11 games.

Lions tackle LaAdrian Waddle went down with a calf injury in the first quarter.
