Georgia Tech, Paul Johnson agree to 4-year contract extension to run through 2020 season

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson is celebrating the ACC championship game with a new contract.

Georgia Tech athletic director Mike Bobinski announced Saturday it has reached an agreement with Johnson on a four-year contract extension through 2020.

Johnson's current contract was set to expire after the 2016 season. The failure to reach a new deal threatened to become a factor in recruiting.

Bobinski said in a statement the extension "reflects our confidence in the solid foundation coach Johnson has built for the future success of our program."

The No. 12 Yellow Jackets play No. 2 Florida State in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game on Saturday night.

Johnson is 58-34 in seven seasons at Georgia Tech. This is the Yellow Jackets' third ACC championship game appearance under Johnson.
