George O'Grady to step down as head of European Tour

Published February 05, 2015

Associated Press

European Tour chief executive George O'Grady is stepping down after 10 years.

The European Tour said Wednesday in a statement that O'Grady has asked the board to start the process of finding a successor. O'Grady said he feels that Europe has gone through a strong recovery process and it was the right time to move on.

The tour said a search to replace him was in the early stages. It was not immediately clear when O'Grady would leave.

He was appointed the third chief executive for the European Tour in 2005, following Ken Schofield and John Jacobs. O'Grady has worked in various capacities at the European Tour for more than 40 years.

During that time, he coped with more players going to PGA Tour by creating golf's most global tour.
