Madeira, Portugal (SportsNetwork.com) - Alastair Forsyth's caddie Ian MacGregor collapsed and died during the final round of the Madeira Islands Open.

McGregor apparently had a heart attack on the ninth hole, which was his 18th hole of the round at Santo da Serra Golf Club.

Forsyth completed the hole and shot 75.

"It is with great sadness and deep regret that we report the untimely passing of caddie Ian McGregor during play on the final day of the Madeira Islands Open," the European Tour said in a statement. "Everyone at the European Tour extends our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Ian at this time. Following consultation with the players and caddies involved, however, it has been decided that play should continue and the tournament should finish. A minute's silence took place at the clubhouse before play resumed."

The event has struggled with fog delays all week. The first round was finally completed earlier on Sunday. They then made a cut and 75 players went out for the second and final round.

There was a one hour delay before play resumed at 6 p.m. local time.
