LAS VEGAS (AP) Former St. John's forward Chris Obekpa is transferring to UNLV and will be eligible to play for the Runnin' Rebels in 2016-17.

From Nigeria, Obekpa led the Big East in blocked shots each of the past three seasons and was fifth nationally a year ago with 3.1 per game. The 6-foot-10 senior averaged 5.8 points and 7 rebounds last season, but was suspended for two weeks in March for violating team rules. He missed the Red Storm's first-round loss to San Diego State in the NCAA Tournament.

Obekpa is St. John's career blocks leader with 321 and holds school records for blocked shots in a season (133) and a game (11).
