Former NFL player Caldwell faces drug charge

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Former NFL wide receiver Donald "Reche" Caldwell faces a drug charge in the Tampa Bay area where he's from.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reports that Caldwell was pulled over early Thursday after a deputy ran a license plate check on his pickup truck and found that Caldwell had a suspended driver's license.

The deputy pulled Caldwell over and had the vehicle impounded. Deputies reported finding a plastic baggie with a small amount of marijuana next to the driver's seat.

Caldwell was charged with marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license. He was later released on $750 bail.

The former Florida Gators star played six seasons in the NFL with the Chargers, Redskins and Patriots. He signed with the Rams in 2008 but never played.

Jail records didn't list an attorney.
