Steve Turner, a respected former team owner in the NASCAR XFINITY and Camping World Truck Series, passed away on Thursday night.

Turner won a Truck Series championship in 2012 with son-in-law James Buescher.

The Texas oil businessman founded Turner Motorsports in 1999. The team started out racing various dirt and asphalt events throughout Texas.

In 2009, Turner made the jump to what is now the XFINITY Series by acquiring Braun Racing, a four-car team at the time.

Turner teamed up with Harry Scott Jr. to form Turner Scott Motorsports in 2013. The partnership lasted until the conclusion of the 2014 season once Turner and Scott Jr. parted ways.
