Former Mets general manager Frank Cashen dies at 88; assembled 1986 championship team

The New York Mets say former general manager Frank Cashen has died. He was 88.

The team says Cashen died Monday at a hospital in Easton, Maryland.

Cashen assembled the Mets team that won the 1986 World Series. He traded for Keith Hernandez, oversaw the drafts of Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden, and hired manager Davey Johnson.
