Published February 05, 2015

Associated Press

Sam Hornish Jr. has signed with Richard Petty Motorsports for a full-time ride in 2015.

The three-time IndyCar Series champion last completed a full NASCAR Sprint Cup season in 2010. He'll replace Marcos Ambrose and drive the No. 9 Ford for RPM.

Ambrose is leaving NASCAR at the end of the season and return to his native Australia.

Hornish joins RPM from Joe Gibbs Racing where he competed part-time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this season scoring one win and four top-five finishes in only eight starts. Hornish competed in three full seasons in the Cup series for Penske racing. He is winless with only three top-fives in 131 career Cup starts.

Drew Blickensderfer will remain crew chief on the No. 9.
