Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Duquesne University football player Chris Johnson's death last week was ruled a suicide by the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Sunday the 22-year-old from Ocala, Florida, was found in Churchill at 10:50 a.m. Friday, the victim of a self- inflicted gunshot wound.

"Everyone associated with the Duquesne football program is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Chris," Duquesne football coach Jerry Schmitt said in a statement. "Chris was a passionate football player who was also a great teammate, who was loved by many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chris' family at this difficult time."
