Former 'American Idol' winner Phillip Phillips to sing national anthem before Daytona 500

Published May 02, 2016

Associated Press

Former "American Idol" winner Phillip Phillips will sing the national anthem before next weekend's Daytona 500.

Phillips will join singer Kid Rock and actor Vince Vaughn as pre-race entertainment for NASCAR's Feb. 22 second opener at Daytona International Speedway. Kid Rock will perform a pre-race concert in the infield, and Vaughn will serve as grand marshal and give the command to start engines.

Phillips released his second album last May. The 24-year-old Georgia native has toured the world since winning season 11 of "American Idol." He joined Matchbox Twenty and John Mayer on stage with Bruce Springsteen at the 2013 Rock in Rio festival. He spent last summer on a co-headline tour with O.A.R. and headlined a national tour last fall.
