Flyers goaltender Neuvirth out 3 weeks with injury

Published March 20, 2016

Associated Press

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Michal Neuvirth is expected to miss the rest of the regular season with an unspecified lower-body injury.

The team announced Sunday that Neuvirth would be out three weeks with the injury suffered before a game Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Neuvirth was set to start but wasn't feeling right, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

Neuvirth's injury means Steve Mason will have to shoulder the load for Philadelphia, which is three points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers recalled goalie Anthony Stolarz on an emergency basis, and he could make his NHL debut this week.

The oft-injured 27-year-old Neuvirth is 28-17-8 with a 2.28 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in his first season with the Flyers.
