Flyers' Briere out vs. Rangers

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Flyers will be without center Danny Briere for Sunday's NBC NHL Game of the Week against the New York Rangers.

Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren announced Briere will miss the game due to lower-body soreness about two hours before the puck dropped on today's game (12:30 p.m., NBC, TSN).

Briere is second on the Flyers with 32 goals and tied for third with 63 points. The 32 goals are the most he's scored in four seasons with the Flyers, and the most he's had since he scored 32 with the Buffalo Sabres in 2006-07.

Briere's absence will hurt the Flyers in their attempt to regain the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Washington Capitals' overtime win against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday dropped the Flyers out of the Eastern Conference lead for the first time since Jan. 7.

This is the first game Briere has missed due to injury this season. The other three games he missed were Nov. 1-6 due to a three-game suspension for cross-checking Islanders forward Frans Nielsen.
