Final round of PGA Championship at a glance

Published February 05, 2015

Associated Press

A glance at Sunday's final round of the PGA Championship, played at 7,458-yard, par-71 Valhalla Golf Club:

Winner: Rory McIlroy, who shot 68 to finish at 16 under.

Runner-up: Phil Mickelson, who birdied No. 18 and finished a stroke back — and a shot ahead of third-place finishers Rickie Fowler and Henrik Stenson.

Rickie's wild ride: Fowler becomes the third player in major championship history to finish in the top 5 or better in all four of the season's biggest events. But the two players who accomplished it previously — Jack Nicklaus in 1971 and 1973, and Tiger Woods in 2000 and 2005 — both won at least one major in each of those seasons. Fowler is still without a major win.

Key stat: Five players posted four rounds in the 60s, the first time that's been done in a PGA Championship since Riviera in 1995.

Noteworthy: By following up his win at the British Open with another, McIlroy has given the Europeans three of the season's four major titles.

Quoteworthy: "I didn't think in my wildest dreams I'd have a summer like this." — McIlroy, who become only the seventh player to win the last two majors of the year.
