FIFA election unlikely to change amid Platini uncertainty

ZURICH (AP) FIFA is expected to keep its presidential election date in February as uncertainty surrounds Michel Platini's candidacy.

On Tuesday, the governing body was holding its first executive committee meeting since FIFA President Sepp Blatter was suspended.

Blatter had already announced plans to resign before being banned for 90 days while under a FIFA ethics investigation over a 2011 payment to Platini, the UEFA president who is also suspended.

Tuesday's meeting was expected to confirm that FIFA will go ahead with the election on Feb. 26.

Platini submitted his candidacy ahead of the Oct. 26 deadline but he could be declared ineligible because of his suspension. Platini is awaiting the FIFA appeal committee's verdict.
