FIFA boss Blatter to skip Champions League final

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

FIFA President Sepp Blatter is skipping the Champions League final in London to prepare for his appearance at a bribery scandal hearing Sunday.

Blatter's adviser, Brian Alexander, says FIFA's chief will not attend Saturday's match between Barcelona and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.

Blatter would traditionally attend UEFA's showpiece club match, where he could have met leaders of 53 European soccer federations who have votes in the FIFA presidential election scheduled for Wednesday.

Blatter and Mohamed bin Hammam, the only other candidate, have been summmoned to appear before FIFA's ethics committee Sunday morning in Zurich.

Bin Hammam is accused of bribing Caribbean voters, and Blatter is alleged to have ignored corruption attempts.
