Ferrer, Murray reach Vienna quarters

Vienna, Austria (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seeds David Ferrer and Andy Murray opened their stays with second-round victories Thursday at the Erste Bank Open tennis event.

After enjoying opening-round byes, the top-seeded former French Open runner-up Ferrer foiled German Tobias Kamke 7-5, 6-1 and the second-seeded two-time major champion Murray took care of Canadian Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 6-4 on the hardcourts at Wiener Stadthalle.

Ferrer's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be sixth-seeded 6-foot-10 Croat Ivo Karlovic, while Murray will meet German Jan-Lennard Struff.

In other second-round action involving seeds, Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci took out third-seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-7 (9-11), 6-1, 6-4 and Serbian qualifier Viktor Troicki upended fifth-seeded Czech Lukas Rosol 6-3, 6-2.

Also on Day 4, Struff outlasted Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 7-6 (7-3) and German Benjamin Becker doused Dutchman Robin Haase 6-3, 6-3. Haase was last year's Vienna runner-up to German Tommy Haas.

Friday's other quarterfinals will pit fourth-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber against his compatriot Becker and Troicki versus Bellucci.

The winner of this European indoor swing tournament will collect $120,000.
