Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The biggest World Series rally in team history wasn't enough.

Chasing a shot at their first championship in 29 years, the Kansas City Royals are pouring it on.

The Royals opened the flood gates with a seven-run rally in the second inning and scored two more times before the sixth to take a 9-0 lead over the San Francisco Giants in Game 6 on Tuesday night.

The Giants have a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series after winning the last two games in San Francisco on Saturday and Sunday.

If the Royals win, Game 7 will be in Kansas City on Wednesday night -- and it certainly looks like that will happen.

They snapped a 16-inning scoreless streak after Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez hit consecutive singles off Jake Peavy to start the second, and Gordon scored on Mike Moustakas' double inside the right-field line.

It was their first run since taking a 4-1 lead with a four-run rally in Game 4 on Saturday.

Peavy, the Game 2 loser, got just four outs in this one. He was replaced by Yusmeiro Petit after Nori Aoki slapped a bases-loaded single through the left side to make it 2-0.

Lorenzo Cain followed with a bloop two-run single into center field, Eric Hosmer bounced a two-run double over the pulled-in infield and Billy Butler added a double to make it 7-0.

The Royals had seven hits in the inning after producing just four in Game 5 on Sunday, when they were shut out by Madison Bumgarner.

It was the highest-scoring inning by a team in the World Series since the Giants got seven in the eighth inning of Game 2 against Texas in 2010.

The Giants loaded the bases in the top of the third when Yordano Ventura walked three batters in a row, but Buster Posey grounded into an inning- ending double play.

Cain hit an RBI double off Jean Machi in the bottom of the third inning and Omar Infante ran through a stop sign at third base in the fifth to score on Alcides Escobar's double, making it 9-0.

Ventura, a rookie, had four strikeouts and gave up just two hits and four walks through the first six innings.
