Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas is expected to miss the next 3-4 weeks because of a thigh injury he sustained in Sunday's 2-1 win over Real Betis.

Fabregas lasted only nine minutes in the match before being replaced by Alexis Sanchez, and according to a statement from the club, it has been confirmed that Fabregas tore a muscle in his left thigh.

The injury means that the Spain international will miss league matches with Atletico Madrid and Valladolid as well as the first leg of Barca's Copa del Rey round of 16 contest with Cordoba.

So far this season Fabregas has featured in all 15 of Barcelona's games in La Liga, scoring five goals and recording a team-high nine assists.
