Eastern Kentucky Runs Past Tennessee-Martin 23-16

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Matt Denham recorded his seventh straight 100-yard game in Eastern Kentucky's 23-16 win over Tennessee-Martin on Saturday.

Denham, who leads the Ohio Valley Conference in rushing with 127.5 yards per game, carried 41 times for 198 yards. His lone touchdown, a 7-yard scamper, gave the Colonels (7-4, 6-2) a 23-16 lead with only 1:08 left to play.

Eastern Kentucky's defense was stout, forcing four turnovers, including two fumbles in the final two minutes of the game. Anthony Brown forced both fumbles. His strip of wide receiver Tevin Barksdale gave Eastern Kentucky the ball at the Skyhawks' own 23-yard line to set up Denham's score. Brown then sacked Derek Carr, forcing the Tennessee-Martin (5-6, 4-4) quarterback to fumble away any hopes of a comeback.

Carr threw two touchdowns for the Skyhawks.

With the win, Eastern Kentucky clinched a share of the Ohio Valley Conference title.
