John Walton's basket on a put back with 3.7 seconds left gave East Tennessee State a stunning 59-57 comeback victory over Charleston Southern Tuesday night.

ETSU (1-2) trailed by as many as 20 points, with Charleston Southern (1-3) holding a 35-15 lead late in the first half. But East Tennessee State, behind Lester Wilson, closed with a 16-3 run to make it 38-31 at halftime.

The freshman Wilson led all scorers with 26 points, 18 coming on his 6-for-12 3-point shooting. Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard (12 points) was the only other ETSU player in double figures.

East Tennessee State played without suspended senior guards Sheldon Cooley and Marcus Dubose. But ETSU outscored Charleston Southern 34-11 during a 16-minute stretch overlapping both halves. Charleston Southern lost despite trailing for a total of just 3:09 during the game.

Arlon Harper led Charleston Southern with 13 points. Saah Nimley chipped in with 10 points.
