Dortmund stumbles at Mainz

Hannover, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Borussia Dortmund was on the wrong end of a 2-0 result at Mainz on Saturday, the club's second defeat of the early Bundesliga season.

Dortmund held its own until the 67th minute when Shinji Okazaki turned the match in Mainz's favor.

Jairo Samperio was the architect of the goal as the Spanish midfielder got to the endline and squared a pass for Okazaki to tuck home with a first-time finish.

Things went further south for Dortmund when Ciro Immobile failed to convert a penalty in the 70th minute while an own goal from Mattias Ginter four minutes later saw the home side secure the win.

The result was particularly disappointing for Dortmund given that Bayern Munich's 0-0 draw at Hamburg earlier in the day left the door open for Jurgen Klopp's men to climb to the top of the table with a win.

Instead, Dortmund sits in eighth place in the top flight with just six points from four games.

Mainz, meanwhile, improves to eight points, good enough for a four-way tie at the summit.

Augsburg claimed a 4-2 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday thanks to Tobias Werner's go-ahead goal in the 77th minute.

Paderborn, meanwhile, continued its strong start to life in the Bundesliga as the club picked up a 2-0 victory over Hannover, and Hoffenheim scored in either half to get a 2-0 win over Stuttgart.

Schalke's slow start to the league campaign was exacerbated on Saturday as the club was held to a 2-2 home draw by Eintracht.

The visitors were two goals to the good by the 24th minute thanks to strikes from Alexander Meier and Marco Russ, but the hosts managed to avoid an embarrassing defeat as goals from Eric Maxim Chupo-Moting and Julian Draxler secured a share of the spoils.
