FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) A judge in New Jersey has dropped a charge stemming from a domestic violence complaint against Mets star relief pitcher Jeurys (JUHR'-yihs) Familia.

Familia had been charged with simple assault stemming from an incident in his Fort Lee apartment in the early morning of Oct. 31. Police said Familia's wife, Bianca Rivas, was left with scratches on her chest and a bruise on her right cheek.

But the judge dropped the charge Thursday after Prosecutor Arthur Balsamo said he met with Rivas and her lawyer.

Balsamo said Rivas told him that her husband never hurt her and that the scratch came from the couple's 1-year-old child.

The 2016 All-Star could face a Major League Baseball suspension if he's found to have violated its domestic violence policy.
