Newly appointed Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski came into his situation a bit differently than his peers at other teams.

Usually, when a team hires a general manager or president, the team is in disarray, its farm system gutted and old, aging contracts weighing the team down.

Dombrowski inherits a team with a deep farm system, rich with prospects and a major league team with a handful of budding superstars.

It's possible, though, you won't be seeing those highly-regarded prospects in a Red Sox uniform, as Dombrowski could dip into the system for trades, according to a rival executive.

There are several areas of improvement to address this offseason, including starting pitching and the bullpen, that can be filled through trade.

If they decide to build the team through free agency, however, it would be tough to justify the financial commitment without unloaded the contracts of Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval.
