Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Thursday that minor league shortstop Erisbel Arruebarrena has been suspended for the rest of the season for repeatedly failing to comply with his contract, according to the team's official website.

Arruebarrena, who signed a five-year, $25 million deal with the Dodgers last February after defecting from Cuba, hasn't appeared in a game at any level this season.

The 25-year-old batted .195 in 22 games for the Dodgers last season, but spent most of his time in the minors, hitting .259 in 68 games across four levels.

The Dodgers designated him for assignment on Dec. 31 before inviting him to spring training, where he hit .143 in eight games.

News of Arruebarrena's suspension came days after the Dodgers completed a deal with infielder Hector Olivera, another Cuban defector.
